Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt: Stop #9 (Purple Team)
April 15, 2015

Welcome to the

Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt!

I am part of
TEAM PURPLE, and this is Stop #9 . If you’re just joining us, there are two loops—pink and purple—and they begin at Lisa Bergren’s site and Robin Hatcher’s site for stop #1 for either stream. If you complete either the pink loop or purple loop, you can enter for a Kindle paperwhite and the 17 autographed books from that loop. If you complete BOTH loops, you can enter for the Grand Prize of a Kindle Fire HDX and ALL 34 autographed books.

BE SURE to keep track of the clues at the bottom of every post in the loop and the favorite number mentioned. You’ll need those clues to enter for the loop prize and every number mentioned in order to enter for the grand prize.

The Hunt begins at NOON Mountain time on April 16 and ends at midnight Mountain on April 19, 2015, so you have a long weekend to complete all 32 stops and maximize your chances at prizes!

ALSO, please don’t use Internet Explorer to navigate through the loops. Some web sites won’t show up using IE. Please use Chrome or Firefox—they’re better anyway!

Without further ado, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to my guest for the Scavenger Hunt, Margaret Daley.

Search and Rescue

By Margaret Daley

I’m writing a series about search and rescue in Alaska. The Northern Frontier Search and Rescue Organization is based in Anchorage but also covers the area around the city. They go where they are needed. Alaska is the last frontier in the United States. There are lots of places that are isolated and hard to reach. That made it a ripe place for the setting for my new series.

In the series I wanted to show various types of rescues from wintertime to summertime, from a downed plane to an avalanche. I wanted to show wilderness rescue as well as an urban one. Alaska is rich in opportunities to illustrate different types of situations.

As I researched search and rescue situations I became amazed at how dedicated the people involved were. Or if dogs were used, how capable they were in finding people. I’m particularly amazed at a cadaver dog that can find a body buried under the ground or a dog that can tell a body is hidden in water. Their scent of smell is keen compare to ours.

Canines also help law enforcement agencies with bomb detecting, drug detecting, suspect apprehension, tracking and cadaver retrieval as well as in search and rescue endeavors. For example, they can smell a dead person buried in the ground or deep under the water.

Organizing a search can be complicated and very detailed, depending on the situation and what is involved—the number of people to be rescued, the terrain, and the urgency in the rescue. Is it an adult involved or a child? Is the person you’re looking for a criminal? There are so many things to consider in a search and rescue.

Below is a cover of the second book, To Save Her Child, in the Alaskan Search and Rescue series. The hero has a tracking dog used to find lost people. The hero and other rescuers used a grid pattern to find the children lost in the woods.

The first book in the series is The Yuletide Rescue (rescue at a down plane) and was out in December 2014. The third book will be coming out in September called The Protector’s Mission (bombing victim in a building) and in December the fourth book will be out—Standoff at Christmas (avalanche).
