YES! I did it. The hardest manuscript I’ve ever written–and last night I wrote the last chapter and epilogue. Midnight Zone was the most technical story I’ve ever written. It’s hanging in the balance with an editor right now…actually, I looked at my submission track last night and remembered it’s at TWO. Maybe one of them will give this story a shot. it’s really amazing (well, at least to me *wink*).
I have to say, this story gave me a run for my money–and energy. Of course, now that I’m done, I realize it needs some restructuring and layering in (I realized in the last 1/4 I slipped back into my knack of leaving out the setting–UGH!). But for me, this was a HUGE success just getting this story written. I’ve never dealt with so much oppression, opposition…MIND GAMES!!
Now, I’ll let this sit for a while, then come back and start tweaking it. In the meantime, I’m very excited about another story I jotted out the first couple of chapters at the beginning of the month. I had one friend look at it, and she loved it. Of course, that made me preen (Thanks, Camy!!). 😀
Soooo….what are y’all working on? What’s challenging you??
Awesome, Ronie! It’s so great to finish a book. Even knowing you have to go back and edit and layer, still, you finished. Something not a lot of people do.
And you have an idea for the next one? Even better.
I hope you find favor with editors 🙂
I read your title and the first sentence, and I thought, “Oh no! She’s actually done it. She’s sold a novel!”
OK, so you didn’t do that. Still, finishing yet another manuscript is a major accomplishment. Especially with that stopwatch in your hand at night.
Of course you’ve been growing. I don’t know you half as well as a lot of people here, and I’ve seen it. Your blog entries alone reflect it.
I’ve discovered something about myself that I’m hoping to share with the group, maybe by email, maybe in person. (We’ll be back real soon now.) When I ask most writers who their audience is, they say, “Huh?”
In contrast, when I actually find a market I like and think I can write for, everything else gets dropped. I do my best when I have an audience I’m writing for.
The last time this happened is when my mentor pointed out the magazine “Dragons, Knights, and Angels”. It energized an idea I’ve been playing with. I already have half a short story written up for it.
Well, that is just amazing news! On a simply amazing blog!
Wow, girl! I didn’t realize you finished it! Wooohooooo!!!! Congratulations. Can’t wait to say the same about Manna. LOL! 🙂
Way to go, Ronnie!
Congrats!!! You finished it!!! I knew you could!!! Doesn’t that make you feel totally awesome?
I hope your next book will be tons of fun!
